Weirs – Prepare to Meet God

This one takes traditional music from the Appalachian region – an area I know almost nothing about – and puts it through quite an experimental blender, at times atmospheric, droney and hypnotic, and other times sounding like what my Dad used to play when he was jamming in the back room. And many times I found myself thinking it would be interesting to play this next to Lankum, so that makes me wonder how much Irish ancestry there is in the region? As I say, I know nothing about the area so I don’t want to speculate out of ignorance.

The denser, dronier tunes are my faves, but I’m blown away by the whole thing.

I’m also reminded of the fantastic Abronia at times.
