Elijah – Augmented

elijah

Sometimes I find myself wondering what the next thing will be. For example, what song will I write next? Then the obvious answer – if I knew that, I’d have already written it. Doesn’t stop me being surprised sometimes when it happens though.

Ditto this. I also occasionally wonder what album I’ll discover next that comes out of the blue, which again, is a bit of a nonsense to wonder. We humans are good at nonsense wondering. But anywho, I discovered this this morning. And it’s years since I’ve listened to music of this ilk, so I’m quite surprised by it.

Chris might like this one. Not sure about the rest of you though.

18th Day Of May – self titled

18th May

Now, we all know that Assumption is the Mother of all Fuck-ups. However, piqued as I am by unusual artist names, I find myself assuming that they probably formed on an 18th of May. Otherwise, why that day in particular? Unless they pulled a date out of a hat. Depends if they have a hat. Most people have hats. I have a hat. Actually, 3. I count a baseball cap as a hat. Otherwise its 2.

They’re no longer active as an artist. I wonder if the date they decided to not be active – if decided they did – was the same, or different? Or did they pull that out of a hat as well? These are important questions!

Should you feel the need for something mellower after Banshee, this is your thang. Not unlike the equally intriguingly named Trimdon Grange Explosion.

Moths & Locusts – Helios Rising

There’s only one thing about this that annoys me. The digital mailout I was lucky enough to receive for this has all the song titles in shouty caps-lock. Do they live on Twitter, or something? Its triggered an OCD I didn’t realise I had. I’m a-gonna have to rename the files. When I’m not busy, anyway. That day may come.

There’s a whole bunch of stuff I got from Cardinal Fuzz, actually, and much of it is rather good. They seem to have sold out of all their records, though, so I’m trying to find relevant links where you can actually get the album in question if you feel so inclined.

Big Blood – Operate Spaceship Earth Properly

bigblood2

So, this time that Bandcamp are doing their thing where they waive their fee, I’ve decided to buy this Big Blood album, and one of their others.

You all know how I feel about Big Blood. It’s helped by the fact that I discovered them at the time they were on a real roll creatively, the time of Unlikely Mothers, which contains one of the greatest pieces of recorded music, ever.

Operate Spaceship Earth Properly has them doing that sound again, which they hadn’t done since then. It is therefore my favourite thing I’ve heard this year, because them doing this sound is them pushing all of my buttons simultaneously. This music is orgasmically good.

When Bandcamp do this thing again next month, I think I’m a-gonna get the recent Follakzoid album, which I had wanted today but… Big Blood, though!

Flowers Must Die – Återbruk

Återbruk

Okay, I’ve just hypnotised myself listening to this.

When you do boring spreadsheet stuff, which involves a lot of repetition, then trancey minimalistic music involving a lot of repetition is really the thing. I mean, really the thing.

Of course, I like that sort of thing anyway. Maybe that’s why I ended up doing the sort of work I do.

Their ‘Greatest Hits‘ from a while back does exactly this too, especially the 55-minute closing track.

I want to live in a universe where a 55 minute trance is genuinely a greatest hit.
